Media Walls for Corporate Events: The Complete Auckland Branding Guide
Share
If you're planning a product launch, conference, press event, or awards night in Auckland, the backdrop behind your speakers and photo moments is doing more marketing work than most people realise. A branded media wall turns every phone photo, press shot, and LinkedIn post from the event into free advertising for your company — but only if it's set up right. Here's what corporate event planners and marketing teams need to know before booking one.
What is a media wall (and how is it different from a “step and repeat”)?
A media wall is a branded backdrop, usually printed with a repeating logo pattern, that's used behind speakers, at registration desks, or as a photo backdrop for guests and press. “Step and repeat” is the industry term for the repeating-logo layout you've seen at film premieres and product launches — it's designed so that no matter where someone stands or how a photo is cropped, your branding is still visible.
The appeal for corporates is simple: it's the single most cost-effective way to guarantee your brand appears in every piece of event photography and video, without relying on people to remember to mention who hosted the event.
Where media walls earn their keep
- Product launches — a strong media wall behind the product reveal is what makes your launch photos look like a launch and not a meeting.
- Press events and media calls — journalists and photographers default to shooting in front of whatever backdrop is provided, so make sure it's yours.
- Conferences and keynotes — a media wall behind the main stage reinforces sponsor and host branding for the full duration of every talk.
- Award nights and gala dinners — a dedicated photo-moment media wall gives guests (and their social feeds) a reason to feature your brand.
Sizing it for your event
Media walls aren't one-size-fits-all, and getting the scale wrong is the most common mistake we see:
- Small activations (registration desks, media interviews, intimate launches): a compact wall in the 2–3m width range is usually enough — big enough to read clearly in photos, small enough to fit tighter venues.
- Stage backdrops and larger launches: you'll want a wall wide enough to fill the camera frame from a typical audience seating distance, which usually means going wider than people expect on first glance at the venue.
- Press lines: leave enough width for two or three people to stand comfortably in front of the branding at once, since press shots rarely feature just one person.
If you're not sure which size suits your venue, send us your room dimensions and expected shot distance and we'll recommend a size before you commit.
Getting the branding right
The branding is the entire point of a media wall, so a few things matter more here than on a standard event backdrop:
- Logo repetition and spacing — too few repeats and there's a real risk your logo gets cropped out of a photo entirely; we lay these out so your logo appears no matter how the shot is framed.
- Colour and contrast — logos in your exact brand colours print beautifully, but very light or very dark logos need a background tweak so they don't wash out under event lighting or camera flash.
- Lead time — because these are custom printed to your branding, media walls need more notice than an off-the-shelf backdrop. The earlier you lock in your logo files, the more design changes we can accommodate before printing.
Media wall vs. shimmer wall vs. mesh wall
Not every corporate event needs a full printed media wall. If you're weighing up options:
- Media wall — the right call whenever brand visibility and press photography are the priority. This is the one to book for launches, press events, and stage backdrops.
- Shimmer wall — a striking, reusable option that photographs beautifully for guest photo moments, but doesn't carry printed branding the way a media wall does. Good for the “fun photo corner” alongside a separate branded media wall.
- Mesh wall — a lighter-weight, budget-friendly backdrop that works well for smaller activations or when a media wall's full scale isn't needed.
For events where brand visibility is the whole point, the media wall is worth the extra lead time. For a secondary photo spot at the same event, a shimmer or mesh wall is a nice complement.
